We Tried It: The Pilates Class Responsible for Vanessa Hudgens’ Incredible Abs
What Is It: WundaBar is a 45-minute Pilates-based workout utilizing the patented WundaFormer, which combines a traditional Pilates reformer, a Wunda Chair, a ballet bar and a jump board into one insane machine.

Level of Difficulty: 7 (on a scale from 1 to 10). I was shaking nearly the entire time, but I made it through!
I’ve always wanted to know exactly how Vanessa Hudgens got her abs, so I was excited (and a little scared) to try her favorite Pilates class – also loved by Ashley Tisdale, Tia Mowry and even Colin Farrell.
Walking into the studio, I was immediately intimidated by the WundaFormer machines, because they did not look like traditional reformers. I was put more at ease when the founder, Amy Jordan, showed me that the machine is really all the Pilates equipment I have used before, just joined together in what she calls the “Swiss Army knife of Pilates machines.”
“I wanted to share the benefits of the jump board, the reformer, the Wunda Chair and the ballet bar with everyone, but it wasn’t in a format where we could do a high-energy class,” Jordan explained of why she created the WundaFormer. “There’s nothing else like it to combine intensity with the integrity of traditional Pilates.”
The 45-minute class was definitely intense! We moved through planks, squats, jumps, oblique twists and more, all in quick succession. In a usual Pilates class, there is a delay to switch equipment, but because everything is contained in one easy-to-maneuver machine, each move flowed directly into the next, keeping up the intensity the entire time.
While the class was tough, the 45 minutes went by very quickly. (And this is coming from someone who is normally counting down the minutes to the end of a class!) When it was done, I felt like every single muscle in my body got a good workout. And I was one step closer to getting Hudgens’ enviable core!
“You don’t get abs like hers from crunches, you get that from working the tiny little muscles that we work here,” says Jordan. “It’s finding those muscles you didn’t even know you have.”
The Verdict: I loved this class! I’m a huge Pilates fan, but I sometimes feel like classes can drag on from movement to movement. This class was high-energy and high-intensity from start to finish.
